SEA TURTLES IN DANGER

Every year, thousands of sea turtles return to the beaches of many countries like Mexico, Namibia or Indonesia among many other countries to fulfill a ritual older than humanity itself: the laying of their eggs. This journey faces danger not only from poachers or pollution, but from an unexpected and fast growing threat: feral dogs and cats. Feral dogs and cats now roam these shores, driven by hunger and ancient wild instinct killing the very species that maintain the balance of our oceans.

Feral dogs and cats attack sea turtles and other wild animals during their most vulnerable moments: by turtles when they come ashore to nest. They kill adult turtles, condemning generations of hatchlings to never exist.

This is a symptom of a much larger crisis: the uncontrolled growth of stray animal populations. In Mexico alone, it’s estimated that there are over 20 million stray dogs, many of whom suffer from starvation, disease, and aggression. These animals are a serious threat to public health like rabies and many other zoonotic diseases that can jump to humans. They spill out garbage bags, defecate everywhere and even attack children

The biodiversity and health of our planet depend on the actions we take today. Help us now because later can be too late.

Each death means 50, 100, or even 200 potential sea turtles that will never hatch. Sadly, turtles are among the animals that suffer the longest agony during attacks of this kind.

We need mass sterilization campaigns and stronger policies that protect both animals and ecosystems from preventable harm.

Education is the first and most important line of defense. Teaching people to respect wildlife and care responsibly for their pets can help break the cycle of abandonment and cruelty.

For every sea turtle that makes it safely to the ocean, dozens more are lost due to preventable human-related causes.
